Wolves Run Amok

By: Earl S.

For the third time in less than a year, the U.S. Congress will attempt to pass legislation that will allow the states of Wisconsin, Michigan, Minnesota, and Wyoming to control their wolf populations without interference from the courts.  Previous legislation was strongly supported by Wisconsin Senators Baldwin and Johnson and they will likely support the new proposal.  This latest legislation was introduced into the U.S. House by Representatives Sean Duffy (R-WI), Collin Peterson (D-MN), and Liz Cheney (R-WY).  Cheney is the daughter of former Vice-President Dick Cheney.  Wisconsin has been unable to hold wolf seasons for the past two years due to a federal court decision in 2014 that returned wolves to protected status. Makenna’s First Doe- User Submission

Girls first deer

Makenna shot this big doe during the Wisconsin gun hunt and it was her first deer ever.

Makenna was able to shoot her first deer ever last Friday and it was a great big doe! She shot the buck in South Central Wisconsin on her family’s farm. After a little bit of a tracking job, she was able to find it with the help of her big brother Jeff and she had her first deer. The doe came out of a wooded area near the farm and Makenna was waiting in her stand. She let the doe come to about 100 yards away before she put a good shot on it and it ran off.  Continue Reading

Wisconsin Cougar Sightings Confirmed

WI Cougar Sightings

The DNR has confirmed this cougar sighting in Wisconsin In Lincoln & Marinette counties.

While Wisconsin usually has quite a few “Cougar Sightings” in local bars around college campuses, we do not usually see many of the large cat that eats animals variety. This has recently changed. The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources biologists have confirmed what anyone who has seen these trail camera photos already knew, that there were cougars in the state of Wisconsin. Opening Weekend Wisconsin Duck Hunt

opening day weekend duck hunt

The opening weekend of the Wisconsin duck hunt fared well for these guys

This weekend was the opening weekend of the southern Wisconsin duck hunt and I managed to get out with some friends on Beaver Dam Lake. We shot eight ducks and one goose on Saturday, which if you looked at the percentages of shells shot to kills, we’d be doing extremely poor. None the less, it was a great weekend and a ton of fun. Check out more photos from the weekend hunt below. Continue Reading
