The Best Name in Fillet Knives is now Tackling Big Game

Rapala Classic Birch Skinning Knife Review

Rapala Skinning Knife

The Rapala Classic Birch Collection of premium hunting knives includes this impressive 4.5 inch skinning knife.

Getting a big animal on the ground is only the beginning for most big game hunters, then, the real work starts. The last thing you want to have happen when you’re miles back in mountain country is a skinning knife that isn’t sharp and we’ve got one of the best reputations in knife-making here to help you out.

Rapala fillet knives have been around for a long time. I had one, my dad had one, my brother has some now, everybody does. They were affordable and have probably filleted millions of bluegill across the country. The knives are made by legendary Finnish knife craftsmen at Marttini, who make the Rapala Fish n Fillet knife.  The reputation of the Rapala fillet knife precedes their new line, the classic birch collection of premium hunting knives.

All of these premium hunting knives are made in the Marttini factory in Finland and are razor sharp and constructed of German stainless steel. We tested out the new Classic Birch Skinning knife and were very impressed. The blade is very sharp and sturdy and is 4.5 inches long. It feels really durable and fits well in the hand. It even comes with a genuine leather sheath that has a belt loop and a molded one-piece scabbard.

The blade on the Rapala skinning knife has a narrow tip with a wide curved belly that makes it really easy to get in close and make a long cut when skinning. The knife is designed for precise work and will allow you to easily strip away the hide from the meat. Skinning knives are, in my opinion, the most important knife you can have. They have to be sharp or the job takes forever. A good skinner will hold up well, easily maneuver and work quickly. This knife fits the bill and I can’t wait to try it out on some animals this fall.
