Lake Michigan Trolling…In January?!?

Badger Sportsman and A1 Big Fish Charters have been working on getting together for an outing on Lake Michigan for the past couple years, but the dates just never worked out. Finally, we were able to get a date that worked for both sides. The “catch” of the original arrangement was that we would be trolling on Lake Michigan during January or February. And on top of that would likely need to be, “breaking ice to get the boat launched.” As we talked, to me, it seemed a little farfetched. New WI State Record Whitefish Caught in Lake Michigan
SD Angler Catches the new Wisconsin State Record Whitefish in Lake Michigan
One of Lake Michigan’s tastiest and lesser known fish is finally getting a little attention in the badger state, where South Dakota fishermen Ray Stromsness boated the new state-record Whitefish. Stromsness was fishing in Lake Michigan aboard Dumper Dan Sportfishing Charters when he caught and landed a 12 pound 4 ounce lake Whitefish by dropping a spoon 30-feet down in the Lake Michigan waters on July 9. Stromsness beat the old record handily, which has been held since 1977 at 11 pounds, 11 ounces. Continue Reading
